Concert Band

Members of the Concert Band will have the opportunity to play and experience exciting music from a variety of styles and genres. Students who are in sixth through twelfth grade are welcome and encouraged to be a part of this elite ensemble! Concert Band members will have the opportunity to attend many fun rehearsals, maintain their instrument properly, and last but not least, attend two concerts per school calendar year. Outside of school private lessons are not required, but would be beneficial to the musical growth and knowledge of their given instrument. Those participating in the Concert Band must show a high standard of excellence in General Education Courses.

 

Concert Choir

Concert Choir members will have the exciting opportunity to sing and experience music from a variety of styles and genres. This elite mixed choir of St. John’s is made up of men and women who are in ninth through twelfth grade. Students in eleventh through twelfth grade are encouraged to join and add their voice to this group of elite singers! Members of this group will have the opportunity to practice in group rehearsal, attend two concerts per school calendar year, and last but not least, have the opportunity to perform in outside of school activities. Practicing outside of choir and taking private lessons is not necessary to be a member of the Concert Choir, but members are encouraged to do so. Those participating in the Concert Choir must show a high standard of excellence in General Education Courses.

 

Music Appreciation           

The Music Appreciation course is designed to give students a basic understanding of the history of music and how music is notated and composed in an exciting and educational atmosphere. Students will learn the history of Catholic music and how religion and faith played a pivotal role in its creation. Students who participate in this course will have the opportunity to share in group discussion, learn about the history/art/music of St. John’s Catholic Church, and last but not least, attend fieldtrips! Through this course, students will be exposed to a wide variety of music and composing styles. St. John’s students who are in eleventh and twelfth grade are encouraged to take part in this exciting and creative course in music appreciation!
